HM Ranch is located in Reese River Valley in
Central Nevada at an elevation of 6000' feet. Building from the
ground up we knew that this was our opportunity to build a place
that relies on very few outside sources for our day to day
operations. Each year we get closer and closer to our goal of
self-sufficiency. We use solar for electricty, wind for water and
manure for methane gas. That's the "big 3" in a modern
homestead.
HM Ranch was built using a lot of plain old common sense. South
facing windows, materials with a high insulation value, gravity
water distribution ect. We believe that a self sufficient lifestyle
is the last safe haven to true freedom. Who can feel free when even
the slightest turnmoil or threat on the world stage will
immediately increase the price of oil and through a chain of
events, eventually everything else? The very things we need to
survive on and how much they will cost us are determined by
O.P.E.C. and 'fat cat' futures traders. It is possible, to a large
degree, to remove this influence and we believe at some point a
must. Now is the time to get started.
True freedom though self-reliant lifestyle is a movement, now is the time to join in. Start today!

Both of these pictures are of Jeff and I skating on our rink
winter 2012.
These three pics are of Jeff bottling this years second batch of Elderberry Wine.
The elderberries grow wild in the mountains only 20 minutes away from the ranch.
He makes about 10 gallons of wine per year which requires 10#'s
of berries (one short morning harvest).
Our New 1000 gallon Bio Gas digester tank ready for the modifications to generate gas.
The tank is set on the south side of our shop. Here I am installing the loading pipe, soon to weld it in place.
The tank is encased and well insulated to keep the temperature up. The daily fill and dump is 10 gallons
of manure slurry. The 10 gallons extracted each day goes into a towable tank and when full is spread in
the fields. It's great liquid fertilizer!.
